AI Contract Overview

The contract involves the procurement of a single unit of a helical gear set for repair or modification, identified by NSN 7H-3020-009649326. The delivery terms specify FOB origin with shipment directed to Timken Gears & Services Inc. in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. This is a sole-source procurement, meaning the government intends to negotiate exclusively with one supplier due to the unavailability of data rights needed to acquire this part from other sources or to economically reverse engineer the part. The government has determined it would be uneconomical to obtain the necessary data rights or to attempt reverse engineering, thereby justifying the single-source approach under FAR 6.302-1. While this notice is not a solicitation for competitive quotes, interested parties may express their interest and capability to fulfill the requirement, and any quotes submitted prior to the award date will be considered, although the government has full discretion over whether to proceed competitively. Suppliers seeking additional relevant specifications, standards, or documentation can access most materials through the DoD Single Stock Point, with many documents available for electronic download via the ASSIST-Online platform. This contract is issued by the NAVSUP Weapon Systems Support Mechanical office in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, under the solicitation number N0010417PDG60. The government explicitly notes that it will not employ commercial item acquisition policies and encourages potential sources to submit proposals, capability statements, or quotations within 45 days of the notice's publication, or 30 days if related to an existing Basic Ordering Agreement. Information gathered during this period will be used solely to determine if a competitive procurement is warranted.
