AI Contract Overview

The contract involves the acquisition of 12 units of a specific inertial system replacement part under NSN 7R-6605-014444843-EX, with technical data package version 001. Delivery terms are FOB origin, with the items to be issued to Northrop Grumman Guidance Co., Inc., located in Woodland Hills, California. The procurement is a sole source negotiation due to the specialized nature of the item, which is flight critical and current technical data limitations prevent fully open competition. The part's design is unstable, necessitating significant upcoming engineering and manufacturing changes that will render the existing version obsolete. Therefore, only currently approved government sources have been solicited, and limited acquisition from these sources is anticipated until configuration changes are completed. Interested parties that are not yet approved sources must submit detailed technical information as outlined in the NAVSUP Weapons Systems Support Source Approval Brochures to be considered. Quotes will be evaluated to determine if a competitive procurement is warranted, but government discretion governs whether competition will be pursued. The time required for new source approval typically precludes delaying award, which may continue to support fleet needs based on evaluations. This contract is part of a presolicitation posted by Navsup Weapon Systems Support under the Department of Defense, focusing on repair or modification of inertial navigation systems and related parts.
