NASA JSC Intends to Issue a New Work Modification to the Exploration Extravehicular Activity Services (xEVAS) Contract 80JSC022DA022 (Axiom Space, Inc.) to Add CLIN 5: Hardware Production & Delivery (Sole Source)NASA Johnson Space Center plans to issue a sole-source contract modification to Axiom Space, Inc. under the existing Exploration Extravehicular Activity Services (xEVAS) contract (No. 80JSC022DA022). This modification adds a new Contract Line Item Number (CLIN 5) focused on hardware production and delivery in support of extravehicular activity (EVA) system integration, testing, training, and mission execution. The modification does not increase the overall contract ceiling and will run concurrently with the current contract period, which extends through May 30, 2032. The contract remains a firm-fixed-price indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) vehicle providing NASA with critical EVA system capabilities needed for Artemis and future exploration missions beyond low-earth orbit. Axiom Space, as the original equipment manufacturer developing the lunar-capable xEVA system, is considered the only responsible source capable of providing compatible hardware without unacceptable schedule delays or duplicative engineering. This specialized work involves highly integrated life-support suits functioning as human-sized spacecraft, and no other sources can meet the unique technical and certification requirements within mission timelines. While NASA invites other vendors to submit capability statements demonstrating compatibility and feasibility by June 22, 2026, the decision to proceed with a sole-source modification to Axiom will be made if no acceptable alternatives are identified. The contract modification will include new terms for ordering, inspection, acceptance, and accountability of NASA-owned hardware to ensure alignment with Axiom’s current system architecture and sustainment responsibilities.
