This acquisition, identified by solicitation number HHS-NIH-NIDA-SSSA-CSS-17-216, seeks to provide the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke with a brand name or equivalent iLAS TIRF/FRAP system. The equipment is essential for the Cell Biology and Biophysics unit to conduct single molecule imaging experiments on microtubules and associated proteins. The primary technical requirement is the ability to maintain homogeneous background illumination, which is critical for the precise quantification of fluorescence intensity and the identification of molecules within diffraction limited spots. The contract was posted on April 10, 2017, with a response deadline of April 24, 2017. The place of performance for this project is located in Bethesda, Maryland. This combined type solicitation falls under NAICS code 333314 and is managed by Contract Specialist Danielle R. Brown.

Full Description

The purpose of this acquisition is to provide NINDS, with a brand name or equal iLAS TIRF/FRAP system that is required to perform single molecule TIRF/FRAP imaging experiments with a homogeneous background illumination. The Cell Biology and Biophysics unit (CBBU) performs measurements of microtubules and microtubule associated proteins and their kinetics and dynamics at the single molecule level. These measurements require precise quantification of fluorescence intensity to discern the number and identity of fluorescent molecules within a diffraction limited spot. This measurement is only valid when the illumination is homogeneous across the field of view so that intensity measurements can be comparable sample to sample and across different areas within the same sample. The ILAS TIRF/FRAP system will allow CBBU to achieve the required homogeneous illumination.
