AI Contract Overview
The U.S. Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is conducting market research through a Sources Sought Notice to identify potential suppliers capable of providing a single portable Laser Tracker Metrology System meeting precise technical specifications for use in laboratory and manufacturing environments. The system must utilize 3D interferometer laser technology with a 20-meter measurement range and achieve an accuracy of 15 micrometers or 0.7 micrometers per meter. It must include two spherically mounted retroreflectors, onboard environmental compensation, compatibility with six-degree-of-freedom active target tracking, and software capable of remote instrumentation control, automated data collection, geometric analysis using CAD models and point cloud processing, environmental error compensation, 3D visualization, and traceable documentation. The system must be fully portable with a protective carrying case, include all necessary cables and a digital operating manual, and come with a factory calibration certificate. The contractor must provide a minimum one-year warranty, and delivery is expected within two months after order receipt to Gaithersburg, MD, with no installation or training required. Industry respondents are asked to submit a concise, five-page response including company details, size certification under NAICS code 334513 (with a small business threshold of 750 employees), SAM.gov registration status, and country of manufacture. Information on existing federal contract vehicles such as GSA schedules is encouraged but not mandatory. Responses must be sent to the designated NIST point of contact by August 11, 2026, and must not include proprietary, classified, or sensitive data. This notice is strictly for market research; no contract will be awarded based on responses, no payment will be made for submissions, and NIST will not provide feedback or respond to questions regarding the findings. The goal is to inform future acquisition planning, potentially leading to a formal solicitation published on SAM.gov or GSA eBuy, but no obligation or commitment is created by this notice.
