The identified firm will perform the following:This FDI Lead Generation needs to build on the studies and strategies developed for Sarnia-Lambton that are aligned with the broader net-zero economy. The FDI Lead Generator will generate 16 qualified leads (based on 8 leads per event over 2 events) over the course of the contract with parties interested in expanding into the Sarnia-Lambton region, and as defined within this document. Markets that could be targeted are the USA, Asia and Europe.The targeted companies will be associated with the net-zero transition and the related industries associated with the net-zero. Specifically, the net-zero transition is linked to the below industrial sectors:Chemistry (Chemicals & Plastics)Sustainable Chemistry & Biotechnology (Cleantech & Industrial Biotechnology)Energy & Hydrogen (Production or Technology Manufacturing)EV & Related Supply Chain (Automotive)Decarbonizing Technologies (Key note: manufacturing, not off-take/licencing)The goals of the project are to achieve the following: The project will result in the identification of pre-qualified leads and meetings with foreign companies that have potential for investment and can benefit from access to the assets of Sarnia-Lambton. To increase Sarnia-Lambton’s profile as a potential location for new investment for foreign companies in the identified sectors highlighted above. To increase Sarnia-Lambton’s profile as a potential location for expansion opportunities from these foreign companies.To generate incremental business opportunities for Sarnia-Lambton industrial companies as suppliers of equipment and related services to those identified companies that invest in the region.An engaging, knowledgeable, independent market consultant will be retained to undertake market research and arrange pre-qualified meetings with foreign owned companies and introduce them to the business and investment opportunities in the Sarnia-Lambton region.The FDI Lead Generator should identify potential leads in the proposed geographic regions, identify meetings through pre-approved conventions/trade shows, and connect with industry associations and partners within each sector for lead generation activities. Conferences & EventsSLEP has determined that one event associated with this project will be the Hannover Messe (April 22-26, Hannover).As part of the proposal, the Lead Generator should propose a specific event or events in the USA from which to generate leads for the consideration of SLEP with the ultimate decision of proceeding with these or SLEP identified events. One USA event will be pursued – the event can be associated with one or several of the industries linked to the net-zero transition.The Lead Generator should propose meetings to be reviewed with SLEP staff before proceeding.If events are impacted by COVID-19, and with the prior approval of SLEP, the FDI Lead Generator shall form direct connections to pre-qualified leads by establishing face-to-face virtual meetings between the company and SLEP.It is known that Sarnia-Lambton has concentrations of employment and infrastructure in chemicals, refining, and bioindustrial & clean technologies, that are linked to, or could benefit from the net-zero economy. A strategic opportunity exists for growth depending on workforce and other conditions especially in coordination with related infrastructure development including new infrastructure and capabilities at Lambton College, the Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park, Lambton Manufacturing Innovation Centre and the private sector. It is recognized that Sarnia-Lambton is a leader in certain sectors – it is Ontario’s largest hydrogen hub, home to 40% of Canada's energy & chemical industry, and Canada’s first Hybrid Chemistry Cluster. Focus on both USA and overseas international markets such as Europe and Asia may be applicable. It is anticipated that the FDI Lead Generation will build out a fulsome number of international connections here.
