Literacy Walkthrough Coaching Tool - Local Funds

The contract aims to deliver professional development, technical assistance, and coaching support to a targeted group of public and charter schools in Washington D.C. to effectively implement the Office of the State Superintendent of Education’s walkthrough structured literacy tool. The selected schools will receive tailored support aligned with their individual literacy strategies, with an emphasis on integrating the literacy walkthrough tool into daily instructional practices and using data to evaluate the impact of these interventions on educator effectiveness and student outcomes. Ongoing coaching will be provided to ensure fidelity of implementation and to build capacity among school teams to sustain literacy improvements over time. Efforts are designed to be data-driven, with a focus on helping educators interpret and act on instructional evidence collected through the walkthrough tool to refine teaching practices and close achievement gaps. Technical assistance will be customized to each school’s context, supporting the strategic alignment of literacy initiatives with broader district goals. The initiative is funded through local resources and is being led by the District of Columbia’s State Superintendent of Education, targeting school-level change through structured, sustained professional support rather than one-time training events.
