Loyalton Ranch

The Loyalton Ranch project, identified as WCB Project 2022111, is a grant allocation from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Wildlife Conservation Board to the Wasiw-Siw Land Trust. This cooperative effort includes the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California, Feather River Land Trust, and Northern Sierra Partnership. The project focuses on the acquisition of approximately 10,273 acres of Washoe tribal ancestral lands located near Loyalton in Sierra and Lassen Counties. The primary objectives are to protect deer and mountain lion habitats, preserve wildlife migration corridors, manage restoration efforts, and facilitate the practice of traditional ecological knowledge. The project is designated for wildlife conservation and the preservation of open space and natural conditions. It has been issued a Notice of Exemption under CEQA Sections 15313 and 15325, as it involves land acquisition for conservation purposes. Administration of the project is led by John P. Walsh, Deputy Executive Director of the Wildlife Conservation Board. The acquisition encompasses multiple specific assessor parcel numbers across both Lassen and Sierra Counties to ensure the protection of critical animal habitats and ancestral lands.
