The Administration for Children and Families, Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation (ACF/OPRE), in coordination with the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of the Assistance Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE), seeks technical, analytical, and foundational policy-related research support in developing understanding and addressing emerging issues surrounding ethics and bias in use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across the Department. This project supports, Executive Order (EO) 13859, Maintaining American Leadership in Artificial Intelligence, intended to drive a whole-of-government approach to the advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in American society. While EO 13859 gives HHS and other federal agencies a mandate to pursue AI-related activities, discussion and use of AI in both the Department of Health and Human Services, and with health and human services spheres in general, began well before the EO was signed.
