The Military Sealift Command has awarded a contract for Material Handling Equipment services to ensure the safe operation and certification of MHE across two vessels. The contractor is responsible for conducting safety inspections, preparing detailed condition reports for the MHE Program Manager at MSC Norfolk, and identifying repairs that exceed the capabilities of the ship's force. A significant portion of the scope involves training and instructing up to four crew members per vessel on safety certification requirements, fork inspections, and repair procedures in accordance with NAVSEA and NAVSUP standards. For the first vessel, the contractor must sign safety certification forms for each forklift and provide the necessary documentation to the Master and the MHE Program Management Office. For the second vessel, the scope includes the visual inspection of MHE and the specific recalibration of ten battery chargers, which involves adjusting settings for different battery types and measuring voltage drops and output currents to maximize efficiency. Both engagements conclude with a formal out-brief to the ship's Master and Chief Engineer.
