This is a notice of intent that the Government (the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District) intends to sole source to Geometrics, Inc., in 15 days for the repair and upgrade of a highly specialized piece of geophysical electromagnetic induction equipment called the MetalMapper. The Baltimore District is supporting cleanup projects utilizing advanced sensor classification geophysics in order to identify and remove munitions from the surface soil. The MetalMapper will be used to cue over geophysical anomalies and classify the anomaly that is underneath the surface. This classification reduces the amount of digging clutter, or items that do not pose risk, by more than 60%. Geometrics, Inc. is the only manufacturer of the MetalMapper 2x2 and it's advance EM Sensor, as well as the only vendor able to provide maintenance, test, and repairs of this specialized system. This sole source requirement meets the conditions of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i) only one source reasonably available. Information received in response to this special notice will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. The determination to not compete the proposed acquisition is within the discretion of the Government. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations. However, all responsible sources may submit a capability statement, proposal, or quotation, which shall be considered by the agency. If no responses are received by 12:00 PM (EST), 2 November 2016, a Sole Source contract will be pursued with Geometrics, Inc.
