The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) issued a Sources Sought Notice to gather information on mature meteorological sensing devices, specifically Dropsondes, intended for use in sonobuoy sensor placement during P-8A High Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare operations. The purpose was to evaluate Dropsonde technology to support the HAASW Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) and identify the most suitable device configurations and data types for operational use. After thorough analysis, it was determined that developing and procuring such meteorological sensing devices was neither cost-effective nor operationally advantageous for U.S. Government requirements. As a result of these findings, the need for a dedicated meteorological sensing device was negated, and the solicitation was officially cancelled. The action took place under NAICS code 334519 and was managed by the Naval Air Warfare Center Air Division located in Patuxent River, Maryland. Points of contact for the cancellation include a Contract Specialist and a Procuring Contracting Officer who were available for communication regarding this notice prior to its cancellation.

Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) posted Sources Sought Notice N00421-09-R-0082 to obtain information on technologically mature meterological sensing devices (Dropsonde) to be used in sonobuoy sensor placement during U.S. Navy P-8A High Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare (HAASW) operations. The information received was utilized in the HAASW Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) to determine the most suitable Dronsonde form factor, data-type, as well as whether Dropsonde was a viable requirement. Results of the independent AoA revealed that the U.S. Government technology development and subsequent procurement of the meteorological sensing device was not a cost or operationally effective materiel solution. These findings negate the need for a meterorological sensing device. Source Sought Notice N00421-09-R-0082 is hereby cancelled.
