Monrovia Library - Story Room Expansion

The City of Monrovia’s Department of Public Works is seeking bids for the demolition and expansion of the Story Room at the Monrovia Library, designated as Project No. A-1002. The scope of work involves the complete removal of existing elements such as a circular desk, drywall, metal framing, furniture, and bookshelves, followed by the installation of new construction including metal stud framing, drywall finishes, a Eurospan ceiling system, new doors and hardware, floor coverings, and painting. The project also requires the coordinated relocation and adjustment of fire sprinklers, electrical outlets, lighting, fire alarm sensors, and HVAC components through a City-approved contractor. All work must comply with applicable standards including ASTM, ANSI, NFPA, NEC, and California State Standard Specifications, with inspections performed on-site by the Architect or City Engineer to ensure conformance with quality and safety requirements. The contract mandates strict handling and storage of materials to prevent damage from environmental factors, and the use of industry-standard fabrication and installation practices for hollow metal products and fire-rated assemblies. The contract has a total estimated value of $130,000, derived from two specified line items: a $30,000 allowance for HVAC ductwork and a $100,000 contingency fund, with all other work items listed as lump sum without unit pricing. The City retains the right to audit all financial and operational records for three years after final payment, and hazardous conditions or differing site conditions must be reported immediately in writing. Signage in public rights-of-way is prohibited, and haul routes require prior approval by the City Engineer.
