The contract involves replacing the existing lake water intake for the Nadina River Spawning Channel at Nadina Lake in British Columbia, approximately 80 km south of Houston. The project requires construction diving at about 30 feet water depth to remove and dispose of the current steel intake structure, while also dealing with hazardous materials linked to an asbestos-bonded steel pipe stub. A new lake water intake and intake screen will be supplied or fabricated, possibly involving a subcontractor, and then installed underwater, ensuring proper attachment and integration with the existing pipeline to protect fish habitat and maintain operational efficiency. The contractor is responsible for all labor, equipment, diving services, logistics, permitting, inspections, and environmental compliance, along with coordination with the Departmental Representative. Environmental protection measures will be implemented to minimize disturbance to the lakebed and surrounding fish habitat, with sedimentation mitigation strategies during the underwater work. An initial site verification visit is necessary to confirm measurements and project layout, although due to the remote and underwater nature of the site, an in-person visit will not be offered. Instead, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) will provide an optional virtual bidder’s meeting to discuss site conditions and challenges. The contract is issued by the Government of Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans, with bidding closing on March 18, 2026. Specifications and drawings will be made available in the second phase of the tender process.
