The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is offering over $3 million in funding to support municipal energy efficiency and electrification projects across New York State. The program focuses on conducting energy audits that incorporate passive house principles and implementing upgrades such as building envelope improvements, weatherization, efficient lighting and appliances, advanced heating and cooling systems, cool roofs, water efficiency measures, and energy management systems like smart thermostats and energy storage. Additionally, it promotes building electrification through the installation of heat pumps, water heaters, and related electrical upgrades. The initiative aims to advance building decarbonization efforts, gather knowledge on retrofit projects, and develop solutions to common challenges. Municipalities awarded funding are expected to complete audits by the end of 2025 and full implementation by September 2026. Eligible applicants must be municipalities within New York State that have not received direct DOE EECBG funding, own buildings of at least 5,000 square feet, and seek funding solely for new work—excluding pre-existing costs. Applicants should have completed a passive house-based energy audit within the past five years or be willing to do so, and must demonstrate the financial capacity to participate since the program operates on a reimbursement basis. The program does not set specific goals for minority, women, veteran, or disadvantaged business participation. The response deadline is August 4, 2025, with the contract size ranging from approximately $3 million to $4.5 million, and the project is open to all counties in New York State. For further details or updates, interested parties can contact the project manager via email or visit the NYSERDA website.
