The Bureau of Engraving and Printing has awarded a contract to KBA-Notasys S.A. to replace obsolete stock items and perform critical upgrades on Super Orlof Intaglio presses at both the Washington, D.C. and Western Currency Facilities. The project involves replacing sealed camera-lens modules and frequency converter servo units, specifically upgrading the systems to NOTASAVE 3 cameras and COMPAX III drives. These enhancements are designed to expand the inspection capabilities of the presses by introducing additional tools for results analysis and adaptation development. KBA-Notasys S.A. is responsible for providing all necessary hardware, software, materials, labor, training, spare parts, and warranty services required for the installation. Due to the proprietary nature of the equipment and the lack of industry response to a prior notice of intent, this contract was awarded as a sole source procurement under FAR 6.302-1, as KBA-Notasys S.A. was identified as the only responsible source capable of satisfying the agency's requirements.
