The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to JEOL USA for preventive maintenance on a JEOL JEM-1400 transmission electron microscope, citing the proprietary nature of the instrument’s components and the specialized training required of the manufacturer’s service engineers to properly maintain, diagnose, and repair the equipment. This action is authorized under FAR 12.102(a), permitting non-competitive procurement due to the uniqueness of the service and equipment, with no set-aside designation applied. The requirement is intended for a single source because only JEOL USA can provide the qualified technical support necessary to ensure the microscope’s continued, safe, and accurate operation. This notice is not a formal solicitation for competitive bids, but responses submitted within ten days of the posting date will be considered by the government to determine whether competition is feasible or if sole sourcing remains appropriate. All responses must be emailed to Denedra Hardy at qfa5@cdc.gov no later than July 6, 2026.
