AI Contract Overview

The Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research within the Department of Commerce is seeking a contractor for the removal and replacement of a deteriorated standing seam metal roof in American Samoa. The existing roof, installed in 2005, has proven difficult to maintain because the specialized materials and expertise required for its specific design are unavailable locally. To ensure long-term sustainability and ease of future repairs, the agency strongly encourages the use of roofing panels and materials that are common to other buildings on the island and familiar to local contractors. The goal is to implement a roofing solution that is congruent with local infrastructure and capable of withstanding the harsh tropical environment of the region.

Full Description

The current standing seam metal roof, installed in 2005, has deteriorated significantly in the last ~18-years. NOAA has discovered that a major issue with this particular roofing design is that no vendors or materials are available on the island to do repair work on this specialized metal roof style. 99% of the buildings on the island with metal roofs use corrugated metal panel products. As such, this solicitation encourages the use of roofing panels that are familiar to local contractors and possibly available in local stores (limited supplies) for future repairs should any be needed. Moving to a roofing style and material that is congruent with the other buildings on the island and one that will last as long as possible in the harsh tropical environment of American Samoa is highly-desirable.
