This project is being conducted per the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act (OPA). The source of NPS’ project funds is the 2016 settlement with British Petroleum for injuries to barrier island habitat caused by the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. NPS is obligated under OPA to restore these injuries. If delayed, invasive species will continue to spread and negatively impact native species and habitats.
