A critical prohibition is in place against the use of mercury or mercury compounds in any preservation, packaging, or marking processes. Sampling and inspection must follow MIL-STD-1916 or ASQ H1331, with specific verification levels assigned to critical, major, and minor attributes. Contractors must also comply with various federal regulations, including the Buy American Act, the Berry Amendment, and cybersecurity requirements under DFARS 252.204-7012.
