The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division intends to award a firm fixed price purchase order to Burke Industries, Inc. for 6804 pounds of NXA5126 rubber compound. This material is essential for the in-house manufacturing of components supporting the SSN-774 Virginia Class new construction and SSN-21 Seawolf Class in service repairs, specifically meeting the requirements for Type AA-26 manufacturing specifications. Due to the proprietary nature of the rubber compound formulation, which was developed by Burke Industries, Inc. and not licensed to other parties, the government is pursuing a sole-source procurement under FAR 13.106(b). While the government invited interested parties to demonstrate their capability to respond by April 22, 2014, Burke Industries remains the only approved vendor capable of providing the material necessary to complete first article inspection requirements.
