The item is strictly prohibited from containing asbestos as defined in FED-STD-313 or any intentional addition of mercury or mercury compounds, except for specific functional uses such as in batteries, fluorescent lights, sensors, controls, weapon systems, or chemical reagents specified by NAVSEA, with additional containment requirements for portable devices. Packaging must comply with MIL-STD-2073-1E, AMS2817, and MIL-DTL-117 Type II Class C Style 1, requiring medium-duty waterproof, greaseproof, opaque bags to protect against UV deterioration, and all labeling must follow MIL-STD-129. Palletization and preservation methods must adhere to DLA packaging requirements, and no mercury-based substances are permitted in preservation, packaging, or marking.
