The NASA Ames Research Center has awarded a Firm Fixed Price contract, number 80ARC022PA0001, to Safran Electronics and Defense, Parachutes USA Corporation for the Re-Entry Vehicle Technology Demonstrator Parachute Recovery System. This sole-source award was justified under 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1) because Safran was identified as the only source capable of meeting the TRL-9 requirement within a reasonable timeframe. The project involves the procurement of three build-to-print OSIRIS-REx Parachute Recovery System assemblies with a performance period spanning three years. The scope of work for the Phase A Data Package is divided into three primary subtasks. These include determining necessary modifications to the design, materials, or processes of the OSIRIS-REx system to meet specific REV-TD specifications, defining the materials required for fabrication and testing, and establishing the test program for phases B and C to verify compliance with technical specifications. The contract is managed by the NASA Ames Research Center located in Moffett Field, California, with performance taking place in Bloomfield, Connecticut.
