The National Hansen's Disease Program requires a contractor to provide comprehensive pharmacy services and prescription drugs for its residents. The selected provider must manage the procurement, transportation, and distribution of medications, preferably using a unit dose system, and must prioritize generic medications. Key clinical requirements include the ability to perform drug regimen reviews, offer therapeutic substitutions, and maintain a formulary specifically tailored to geriatric patients. If a distribution method other than unit dose is used, the contractor is responsible for supplying the necessary medication carts. Financial reimbursement is handled through direct billing to Medicare, Humana Gold Plus HMO, and other third-party insurance providers, as the government is not responsible for these payments. However, the National Hansen's Disease Program will cover all co-payments and coverage gaps. The contract is structured for an initial one-year period of performance starting in 2009, with four additional one-year options. This requirement falls under NAICS code 446110 and is conducted in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation Parts 12 and 13.
