On May 19, 2026, active and rapid spread of the Bain Fire incident impacted the Facility. On that same day a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) declaration was approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in response to the Bain Fire that burned in excess of 1,400 acres. It was subsequently determined that areas of the Facility remain highly dangerous due to severe ecological and structural post-fire damage. This project includes restoration of trails, hillsides, staging areas, parking lots, and nature center.
