The U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM) at Natick intends to award a sole source purchase order to Springfield, LLC for the supply of specialized aramid blend fabrics necessary to support the production of Air Warrior and Combat Vehicle crewmen uniforms for Operation Iraqi Freedom. The contract encompasses the procurement of 1,650 yards of plain weave aramid blend fabric meeting MIL-C-83429B type II, class 5 specifications, and 1,220 yards of oxford weave aramid blend fabric conforming to MIL-C-43842C class 3 requirements. Springfield, LLC is uniquely positioned as the only domestic source capable of producing these fabrics with the required printing and testing capabilities, having provided similar services to the Soldier System Center for over a decade. This fabrication need is urgent to avoid delays in uniform production, and Springfield’s existing production line and proven quality assurance measures ensure timely delivery and compliance with military standards. The decision to negotiate and award this contract under the authority of FAR 6.302-1 reflects the critical nature of this procurement and the singular availability of Springfield’s services. Questions regarding the acquisition can be directed to officials at the Natick Contracting Division, with a response period ending on April 22, 2005.
