2026 Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant
Solicitation # 2139681
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is administering the 2026 Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant Program, funded by a federal appropriation of 857,629 dollars. This program provides matching grants to eligible rural fire departments for the purchase of wildland firefighting suppression supplies. To be eligible, departments must be comprised of at least 80 percent volunteer personnel and serve a rural area, defined as a town or village with a population of 10,000 or less based on the 2020 Census. Selected departments can receive a maximum award of 3,500 dollars, which must be matched 50/50 by the recipient. Grant funds must be used for items directly related to wildland firefighting that benefit the local rural community, with a restriction that no individual item exceeds 9,999 dollars. Selection is based on the department's funding history over the previous five years, whether it is a newly formed establishment, and the presence of a Native American community within its jurisdiction. The program operates under federal guidelines from the US Forest Service and the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978. Applications are accepted through December 30, 2026. This solicitation does not have specific goals for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, Minority, Women, or Disadvantaged Business Enterprises. All inquiries and applications are managed by the Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant Coordinator within the Division of Forest Protection.

The contract involves the development of a comprehensive set of pre-approved detached ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) plans tailored for residential properties in Rancho Mirage, California. The consultant will create detailed building plans for a 500 sq. ft. ADU, including architectural drawings, structural and engineering calculations, energy compliance, and green code requirements. These plans must be adaptable, allowing for modifications such as roof pitch adjustments, customizable foundation plans based on soil conditions, and a height range of 12 to 16 feet for single-story structures. Additionally, the plans should incorporate architectural features that complement existing primary dwellings, such as trellises, multiple roof lines, and potential courtyards, to enhance neighborhood harmony. Furthermore, the consultant is tasked with researching local architectural styles to develop at least three distinct design types—contemporary, modern, and Spanish—that reflect Rancho Mirage’s residential character. These design types will serve as options for homeowners and builders, ensuring aesthetic compatibility with various neighborhoods. The project also requires the creation of elevation drawings for each design type, with a minimum of four elevations per plan, to provide visual guidance for construction. The final deliverables aim to streamline the permitting process by offering versatile, pre-approved plans that meet all regulatory standards, while individual site-specific plans such as site and grading plans remain the responsibility of the homeowners. The contract is set to be awarded with a value between $50,000 and $150,000, with a response deadline of December 19, 2024.
