DeSoto County's Board of County Commissioners is seeking the services of a qualified engineering firm to develop a comprehensive Master Plan for the existing DeSoto County Landfill, focusing on capacity expansion and operational planning over the next 30 years. The landfill, located in Arcadia, Florida, has been in operation since 1981 and is currently permitted as a Class I municipal solid waste facility. The active zone, Zone 5, has a remaining capacity of approximately 714,800 cubic yards and is expected to last less than six years, prompting the need for a future Cell 6 expansion. The County aims to update its previous 2011 Master Plan, considering recent land acquisitions and future growth, with the total County-owned land spanning about 157.55 acres, of which roughly 70 acres are currently utilized for landfill and leachate storage. The selected firm must include a licensed professional engineer in Florida with expertise in landfill planning, design, permitting, and operations, along with any other necessary specialists to complete the project. The contract, valued between $500,000 and $2,000,000, is part of a solicitation process with a response deadline of November 26, 2024. The project aims to ensure sustainable landfill operations and capacity management aligned with future needs, supporting DeSoto County’s waste management infrastructure planning.
