The Proposition 68 Rivers and Streams Grant Program for the Klamath-Trinity Watershed is a solicitation issued by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Funded by the California Drought, Water, Parks, Climate, Coastal Protection, and Outdoor Access for All Act of 2018, this program provides grants to projects designed to enhance a community's ability to adapt to climate change, protect coastal and rural economies, and improve agricultural viability and wildlife habitats. Key project priorities include the restoration of riparian and side-channel habitats, the reconnection of rivers with their floodplains, and the protection of upper watershed forests and meadow systems essential for fish and wildlife resources. Managed under the revised April 2024 guidelines, the program utilizes a competitive process involving administrative and technical reviews to evaluate eligibility and project merit. In addition to the Rivers and Streams focus, the broader funding framework encompasses Southern Steelhead and Fish and Wildlife Improvement grants. The program emphasizes landscape resilience, drought tolerance, and water retention to ensure long-term environmental sustainability and the development of future recreational opportunities.
