The CDC plans to award a firm fixed price contract to perform genotyping, or DNA fingerprinting, of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates to support state and local tuberculosis control programs across the United States. The objective is to provide genotyping for one isolate from every newly diagnosed, culture-positive TB case nationally. The contract period is intended to span from May 2003 through April 2008, with the possibility of multiple awards to ensure comprehensive geographic and demographic coverage. Contractors are required to have access to a Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) facility for handling M. tuberculosis, either onsite or within five miles of their location, and must provide training and medical surveillance for all employees working with viable M. tuberculosis. Additionally, some genotyping procedures may fall under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations, necessitating an established affiliation with a CLIA-approved laboratory capable of regulatory oversight. The solicitation for proposals will be issued electronically around February 3, 2003, and proposals must be submitted approximately 45 days after issuance. Interested contractors are responsible for downloading the solicitation and any related correspondence from the Government Electronic Posting System (EPS). All qualified offerors meeting the specified requirements are eligible to submit their proposals for consideration. Correspondence addressing the request for proposal (RFP) must reference RFP 2003-N-00706. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code 541710 and Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code 8733 apply to this contract. The CDC’s contract specialist, Elmira C. Benson, can be contacted for further information.
