Interested firms are encouraged to submit qualifications as indicated herein. For information visit - http://facilitiesprojects.lbl.gov/ A. PROJECT SCOPE SUMMARY The firm will provide design services for the BELLA laboratory and associated support space. This Project will contain the following: 1. Construction of a new 5000 GSF class 10,000 clean room, with a class 1000 enclosure therein, interconnected to new concrete shielded cave areas, retrofitted into the existing Building 71 footprint. 2. Structural modifications will be required to the existing building, including saw-cut/removal of concrete floor sections and installation of drilled piers and grade beams, installation of cast in place thick concrete shielding, shear wall modifications, and possible removal of several interstitial columns, and redistribution of roof load to other structural members. Vibration and heat load isolation of pumps and power supplies that support lasers in the clean room will also be required. 3. A 2400 GSF control room, with data and electronic control connections for the clean room and cave environments, as well as extensive experimental data collection and control systems for laser and ancillary equipment residing in the clean room and cave. This area will also house all laser safety and interlock controls for the space. Experimental equipment and laser interlock controls will be designed by others, however integration into the control room will be part of this scope of work. 4. New electrical distribution, HVAC systems for the clean room and associated space, tower water distribution for cooling laser systems, extension of existing fire alarm and sprinkler systems including controls, plus additional plumbing (N2 and vacuum). B. SCOPE OF SERVICES The work includes, but is not limited to, professional engineering and architectural services: 1. Conceptual Design 2.
