USAID/Caucasus is exploring the development of a new three to five-year initiative aimed at increasing incomes and reducing poverty throughout Georgia by focusing on the agricultural sector. The agency is seeking informed input on strategic approaches to sustainably enhance employment and income generation within this sector, taking into account Georgia's current political, social, and economic environment, as well as past experiences from various official, private, and donor-led rural and agricultural programs. Respondents are invited to submit their recommendations in no more than five pages by March 10, 2008, outlining priority areas for USAID investment and justification for those choices. This request for information is not a solicitation for proposals or qualifications but is intended to gather insights that will help shape the design of future assistance programs. Participation will not exclude respondents from applying for subsequent contracts or agreements related to program implementation. All submissions will become the property of USAID, and no compensation will be provided. Questions about this RFI will not be addressed, and responses should be directed to the Regional Contracting Officer at the provided email address. The initiative underscores USAID’s commitment to tailoring its support to the realities of Georgia’s agricultural sector and broader development goals.

Full Description

USAID/Caucasus is considering a new 3 to 5 year program in Georgia that will increase incomes and reduce the prevalence of poverty, countrywide. USAID would like to know what, in your opinion, USAID should do over the next several years to sustainably increase employment and incomes through the agricultural sector? USAID requests that your submissions consider Georgia's current political, social and economic context, as well as the lessons learned from the past several years of official, private and donor activities in the rural and agricultural sector. Please give us your thoughts in no more than five pages, describing where USAID should focus its resources and why, no later than March 10, 2008. This is not a request for proposals nor individual/corporate qualifications statements. It is an opportunity for informed organizations and individuals to help shape USAID's assistance program in Georgia. Submissions in response to this RFI will not preclude an organization from competing for a subsequent contract or assistance agreement, should USAID decide to implement a program. All information and materials submitted will become USAID's property and no compensation will be provided. No questions regarding this RFI will be answered. Please submit your response to cgarcia@usaid.gov.
