The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) in Falls Church, VA plans to award a purchase order to the Trustees of Tifts College, Inc., located at 136 Harrison Ave, Boston, MA, for wildlife disease laboratory services. These services will support the USFWS Natural Resources Program Center’s goals of establishing wildlife health baselines, identifying current and emerging wildlife diseases, ensuring disease preparedness through staff training, and implementing effective management actions. The Northeast Wildlife Disease Cooperative (NWDC) at Tufts University's Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine has been designated as the primary provider of these critical diagnostic, field, and training services in the Northeastern United States, where no comparable state or federal laboratory services are available. The contract includes a Base Year plus four Option Years and will be awarded through a sole-source negotiation in accordance with FAR 13.106-1(b), with an opportunity for other interested and capable sources to respond within fifteen days of the announcement. Responses are primarily to gauge competition possibilities, though the government reserves the right to proceed without competition. The NWDC, established in 2012, serves as a versatile organization delivering wildlife health and research services to state and federal agencies, positioning it as an essential resource for wildlife disease monitoring and management in the region. The contracting office is part of the Department of the Interior, and inquiries can be directed to Sarah DeLawder at the USFWS.
