The Railroad Commission of Texas is seeking qualified professional environmental engineering firms through a solicitation for services related to the reclamation of abandoned surface and underground mines. The scope of work includes earthwork activities such as highwall reduction, spoil recontouring, and the treatment or burial of unsuitable spoil, which often contains acidic or naturally radioactive materials. Additionally, the projects involve installing erosion and water control structures and revegetation efforts to restore disturbed land. For underground mine openings, closure methods like backfilling, capping with concrete or metal grating, or metal gating are employed to ensure safety and environmental protection. All reclamation activities must be designed and executed by licensed, professional engineers to meet environmental standards. The contract, posted on June 10, 2025, with a response deadline of July 10, 2025, is valued between five and fifteen million dollars and is categorized under NAICS code 541330 for Engineering Services. The RRC does not possess the internal personnel or equipment necessary for these specialized projects, thus relying on experienced, licensed environmental engineering firms in Texas to perform all required work under the contract and work orders. Interested firms can contact Matthew Bowman via email or phone for further information, and detailed procurement information is available through the Texas SmartBuy portal.
