Railtown Oil Pit Fence Repairs

The Railtown Oil Pit Fence Repairs project, managed by the California Department of Parks and Recreation Central Valley District, involves the installation and reinstallation of fence alignments along the east and north faces of the Oil Pit at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Tuolumne County. The primary objective is to improve safety and ensure secure access for park staff. All work is confined to an existing stairway area and must strictly adhere to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation and the Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. The project is categorized as exempt under Class 31 Section 15331 as it focuses on the maintenance and repair of historical resources. On the east face, the scope includes installing three vertical boiler tubes sourced from on-site piles, cut to 43 inches above the surface and impact-driven into existing holes without concrete encasement. Four boiler tubes approximately 12 feet in length will be used for top and lower rails, utilizing threaded Ts and elbows for the top rail and welding for the lower rails, followed by backfilling with local soil and rocks. On the north face, two boiler tubes approximately 10 feet in length will be installed using similar threaded and welded methods, utilizing the existing north-most vertical posts from the east and west faces.
