The Social Security Administration (SSA) is planning to procure relocation services from IBM to move eight IBM FICON directors to the National Support Center (NSC) to support a large inventory of physical and virtual tape drives. This action is necessary because the existing mainframe processors lack sufficient FICON channels to support all approximately 324 tape drives, each requiring two channels. The relocation will facilitate continued direct attachment and operational efficiency for SSA’s extensive tape drive infrastructure. The funding for this procurement is provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. This contract is set to be awarded through the NASA Solutions for Enterprise-Wide Procurement (SEWP) contract to IBM, and the agency intends to issue a firm fixed-price delivery order following federal acquisition regulations. The SSA has posted this notice for informational purposes only and will not entertain contractor responses. The Office of Acquisition Grants in Baltimore, Maryland, will manage the procurement with Michele A Tubman serving as the contract specialist.

RECOVERY - The Social Security Administration (SSA) intends to fund the proposed action via the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Pub. L. 111-5) (Recovery Act). The agency provides this notice for informational purposes only. SSA needs to purchase IBM relocation services to move all 8 IBM FICON directors to the NSC to support SSA's large number of physical tape drives and virtual tape at the NSC. SSA will have approximately 324 tape drives at the NSC and each tape drive uses two FICON channels. Each mainframe processor does not have enough FICON channels to support all SSA tape drives and direct attachment, therefore FICON directors are essential. The proposed action is available to International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) under National Aeronautics and Space Administration Solutions for Enterprise Wide Procurement (NASA SEWP) Contract. The agency intends to issue a firm fixed-price delivery order, following the procedures of FAR 16.505, for the purchase of relocation services for IBM Ficon Directors. *This notice is for informational purposes only; contractors should not respond.
