This contract involves the rehabilitation of the Contact and Sonoma mercury mines in Mendocino County, California, under the Bureau of Land Management and administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. It is a project funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, which imposes specific reporting requirements. The work includes onsite consolidation, stabilization, and capping of two non-operational mercury mines to mitigate environmental hazards. This opportunity is limited to IDIQ contract holders from a prior solicitation and multiple-award task order contract (MATOC) focused on the western United States, with three companies—C3, LLC, CH2M HILL, and URS Group Inc.—competing for the project. The original MATOC solicitation was a two-step acquisition conducted under FAR 36.3 and Part 15, awarded in December 2009. The contract is managed by Contracting Specialist Stephen Trevino, based at the Department of the Interior’s Fish and Wildlife Service headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia. The project data reflects it is still in the presolicitation phase as of mid-2010, and the emphasis is on environmental remediation of the abandoned mine sites to protect and restore public lands.
