[PROJECT TITLE CONTINUED]: and charitable sales Adopt an ordinance amending and retitling Redwood City Municipal Code Chapter 20 (Motor Vehicles and Traffic), Article VII (Stopping, Standing and Parking), Division 12 (Parking of Vehicles of Peddlers or Vendors and Vehicles Transporting Property for Hire) and Chapter 28 (Solicitors, Peddlers and Charitable Sales). Street vending encompasses two main categories: “mobile/motorized” and “sidewalk/people-powered/non-motorized.” Following an increase in complaints related to street vending in the public right-of-way, particularly regarding health and safety concerns, as well as the adoption of new state laws affecting the extent to which local jurisdictions may regulate street vending, Redwood City adopted an ordinance on October 26, 2026 with a comprehensive regulatory framework for Motorized Vending and Non-Motorized Vending, while also updating regulations related to vehicles transporting property for hire, solicitors and peddlers, and charitable sales. The intent of the regulations is to bring the City’s Municipal Code into alignment with the state law, provide access to entrepreneurship by supporting legal economic activity where it may not have previously been permitted, and address recurring health and safety concerns.
