Electrified high speed passenger rail is not presently provided for under the Transport Canada (TC) Rail Safety regulatory regime. As such, TC is seeking recommendations concerning potential adaptations of the rail safety regulatory regime for electrified railways to ensure continued safe railway operations in Canada. To accomplish these objectives the contractor will undertake a comprehensive review of railway electrification regulatory requirements and standards in Canada and internationally as well as a safety-based risk assessment of electrified railway systems. This will provide insight into the regulatory landscape surrounding railway electrification, to better inform potential requirements in the regulatory framework for electrified passenger rail in Canada.
