Remove and Replace Concrete Median Barriers, Install Signs on SR-76

Caltrans proposes to prevent wrong way entrances onto SR 76. The area of concern is in San Diego County along SR 76 from PM R16.4 to R16.9. Caltrans will upgrade of 24 linear feet (LF) of center median barrier and removal of existing signs and installation of new signs is to increase visibility of prohibited movement and prevent further incidents. Caltrans proposes to remove 24 LF of existing 36” high center median barrier and replace with 48” high CB (Type 60PR) with a 10” footing. This barrier is natural color concrete. Caltrans will install Do Not Enter/Wrong Way Sign Packages at various locations and on barrier. Construction Area signs will be installed, and Temporary K-rail will be placed per standard specs and plans. Ground disturbance per standard plans (awaiting confirmation) 3’-6” and 5’ depth potential at 4”x4” and 6”x6”. Potential vegetation trimming to ensure visibility of newly installed signs, or no vegetation trimming at all. Potential vegetation removal or trimming on EB direction to provide appropriate visibility for installed sign. Road Work Ahead and End Road Work construction signs will be installed before and after work zone in center medians. See attached exhibit for approximate sign locations and package amounts. Posts in center median will be barrier mounted. Two new posts will be installed on each direction for a total of four posts. Assumed depth is 3’-6” and 5’ for the posts that are 4”x4” and 6”x6”.
