The United States Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, intends to award a sole source, firm-fixed price contract to Timberland Equipment, LLC for the procurement of replacement parts for a 72-ton stiff leg derrick located at the Soo Area Office in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Because Timberland Equipment originally designed and manufactured the derrick in the mid-1960s for the installation of dewatering bulkheads on the Poe Lock, they are identified as the only source with the proprietary design and technical expertise necessary to ensure replacement parts meet original design limits and safety standards. The estimated value of this procurement is between 35,000 and 50,000 dollars. Under solicitation W911XK-10-T-0108, the government sought to verify if any other capable sources existed before finalizing the sole source determination. The project focuses on replacing worn or broken components that are no longer available under existing part numbers to maintain the reliable operation of the government-owned equipment.
