BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair, Inc. will replace the aging electrical distribution system at Pier 3 in San Diego to support Navy and large commercial vessel berthing operations. The project involves removing and installing new high and low voltage equipment, circuits, wiring, and associated devices including deck mounted substations, all while utilizing existing electrical conduits to avoid ground disturbance or excavation. Work is scheduled to begin in early 2027 and is expected to span approximately two years, with ongoing maintenance required afterward. Construction activities will be carefully coordinated with ongoing shipyard operations to minimize interruptions to shore power and daily functions, with staging occurring within BAE’s adjacent leasehold area. The project’s limited scale means it will generate only minor vehicle traffic and equipment use, resulting in negligible impacts on air quality, greenhouse gas emissions, and transportation. BAE is responsible for full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations concerning demolition debris, hazardous materials, and stormwater management.
