TITLE Restoration of the Greenhouse at the Official Residence of the Embassy of Canada to Ireland, in Dublin. BACKGROUND The Official Residence (OR) of the Embassy of Canada to Ireland, in Dublin is located within a Conservation Area and is a protected structure. The OR has a large greenhouse located in the rear garden, within the curtilage and therefore falls within the protected structure. The greenhouse has wooden pitched rafter style roof with long span glazed panes, built on low-level brickwork, with wooden window and doorframes to the gable end elevations. The external brickwork is finished with limestone render, which has perished and cracked in areas, exposing the brickwork. Internally, the brickwork appears to have suffered from damp penetration and pointing to brickwork has perished, the perished external render being a possible source of ingress. Joinery of the rafter-glazing beads to main glazed pitched roof, doorframe and window frames are rotten in places. Paintwork is generally weathered and in poor condition in areas. Putty to the glazing beads has perished from the elements. The surface water collection is via a cast-iron rainwater gutter at the bottom of the pitched roof glazing, and appears to be in reasonable condition. The greenhouse size is approximately 9m in length, 4m in width and 3m in height. OBJECTIVE The work must be completed by a contractor with specialist buildings skills in the restoration of buildings with conservation and heritage protected status. This required work is for the holistic restoration to the greenhouse, with equal materials to retain as much as possible the character and material content of the existing structure. LOCATION OF WORK The work is to be performed at the Official Residence located in Dublin, Ireland. Exact address to be provided at contract award. SCOPE OF WORK The greenhouse requires restoration and repairs to its various building elements: • Brickwork. • Lime render. • Joinery repairs – replacement of rotten rafter glazing bars, door and window frameworks. • Painting to joinery and woodwork and cast-iron – external and internal. • De-glazing and re-glazing with the replacement of perished putty.
