Revegetation of Alvarado Creek

This project is the next phase of a long-term restoration initiative by SDSU-SERG aimed at revitalizing aquatic and terrestrial habitats along Alvarado Creek in San Diego’s Del Cerro neighborhood, specifically on the north side of Interstate 8 near the SDSU campus. The primary focus is on removing non-native vegetation to restore native plant communities that support healthier stream flow and improved ecological function. These efforts are part of an ongoing strategy that extends to all previously restored sections of the creek, ensuring consistent and sustained habitat recovery across the entire corridor. The work is designed to enhance biodiversity, stabilize soil, and promote natural hydrologic processes critical to the health of the creek ecosystem. Monitoring will play a central role in evaluating the success of the restoration, with assessments focused on eco-hydrologic dynamics, water quality metrics, and biological indicators such as native species presence and abundance.
