The Cliff Drive Vision Zero Project aims to significantly enhance mobility, safety, and multi-modal transit options along a three-mile stretch of Cliff Drive in Santa Barbara, from Arroyo Burro County Beach Park to Castillo Street. The initiative focuses on creating a safer environment for all users, including those with disabilities, by implementing ADA-compliant features and safety improvements. Key elements include the construction of a separated bike path that is part of the larger 30-mile Coastal Bike Route connecting UCSB to Ventura County, along with the installation of four new traffic signals and fourteen crosswalks, as well as upgrades to existing crossings. Safety enhancements at these crossings feature curb extensions, median refuge islands, Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons, improved lighting, and high-visibility markings to reduce accidents and improve pedestrian safety. Additionally, a new crosswalk at Cliff Drive and Salida Del Sol will improve coastal access and provide a safer route to Washington School, complemented by a widened sidewalk on Flora Vista to enhance pedestrian comfort and accessibility. The project is soliciting proposals for constructability review, construction management, material testing, and inspection services, with a contract value estimated between five and fifteen million dollars. The solicitation, posted by the City of Santa Barbara, is open until September 25, 2025, and is targeted at qualified firms under NAICS code 541380. The primary contact for this project is Alexis Lopez, reachable via email or phone, with further details available through the project’s online portal. The project underscores a comprehensive effort to improve safety, accessibility, and connectivity along Cliff Drive, aligning with Vision Zero principles to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries.
