RFP Iowa Judicial Branch Chiller Replacement

The Iowa Judicial Branch is initiating a contract to secure professional design services aimed at evaluating and replacing the existing Centrifugal Water Chiller at its building in Des Moines. Ensuring efficient and reliable cooling for the facility is critical to support the judicial system's ongoing daily operations. The selected firm will be responsible for gathering essential data, conducting load calculations to confirm chiller sizing, and handling the complete design and documentation process—from initial scope development and bid documentation to finalized construction documents. These services include preparing a detailed construction budget and schedule, and ensuring that all components of the new chiller system integrate smoothly with existing infrastructure. Additionally, the contractor will oversee key construction administration duties, such as responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, approving payment requests, and executing periodic quality assurance checks on-site. Coordination with Judicial Branch staff and chiller manufacturers is required to facilitate proper integration and to explore system optimization and potential rebates. The firm will attend kick-off meetings, document progress, and deliver all final design files in native formats to the state. The contract period spans from late June 2025 to March 1, 2026, covering all work at the Iowa Judicial Branch Building. Responding firms must demonstrate their qualifications, adhere to RFP specifications, and be legally registered to operate in Iowa before receiving payment. The estimated contract value ranges from $500,000 to $1,500,000.
