Sacramento River Wildlife Area Mile 164 - L (Felkins)

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife, through the Wildlife Conservation Board, is pursuing the acquisition of approximately 128 acres of land in Glenn County, identified as the Sacramento River Wildlife Area Mile 164 - L (Felkins). This project, tracked under WCB ID 2024018, focuses on the protection of valley foothill riparian and riverine habitats and the preservation of special status species, including the state threatened bank swallow and the federally threatened valley elderberry longhorn beetle. The acquisition is designed to expand the Sacramento River Wildlife Area Princeton East Unit, located across from the town of Princeton, and will strengthen connectivity between the 13 Units of the Sacramento River Wildlife Area and the USFWS Sacramento River National Wildlife Refuge. The project is managed by John P. Walsh, Deputy Executive Director of the WCB. It has been granted a Notice of Exemption under Public Resources Code 21080.28, as the acquisition is intended for the preservation of natural conditions. The specific land parcels involved are identified by APNs 013-160-025, 013-160-028, and 013-160-031. Beyond habitat conservation, the acquisition aims to provide future wildlife-oriented public use opportunities.
