Salmon River Dike Upgrades

The contract involves the elevation of a 600-meter-long earth dike along the Salmon River by approximately 0.9 meters on average, accompanied by the installation of a reinforced concrete and steel barrier system within the pump house section to enhance structural integrity. The project includes integration with the existing river-side trail network and maintenance driveways, as well as the construction of a 16-foot-tall golf ball protection fence along the newly elevated dike crest. Approximately 60 trees with diameters exceeding 300 millimeters will be removed from the dike alignment and transported off-site for disposal. Additional incidental work as outlined in the Contract Documents is also included. Parallel to the dike upgrade, Part B and Part C address erosion mitigation along the Bedford Channel riverbank at two designated work sites, WP2 and WP6, with the latter being optional. This phase entails the deployment of a natural erosion control system using rock armouring, large woody material, and geotextile or soil-wrap technologies to stabilize the eroding banks. Vegetative restoration will be performed through live staking at intervals of no more than 0.6 meters to promote long-term ecological recovery.
