SBD/RIV WTI CCTV Replacement TMS/RWIS Stations Component Replacement, Census Secondary Work

Caltrans District 8 is initiating a project titled SBD/RIV WTI CCTV Replacement TMS/RWIS Stations Component Replacement, Census Secondary Work to replace aging Traffic Management Systems (TMS) components and cameras. The project aims to enhance roadway safety and improve traffic operations across ten total locations, specifically seven sites in San Bernardino County and three sites in Riverside County. Work will be performed on various routes, including I-210, I-215, US 95, and SR 60, 86, and 91, with specific activity occurring in San Bernardino, Needles, and Coachella. The scope involves installing new overhead cameras connected to existing electrical systems and replacing components within cabinets located off the shoulders. All project activities will be conducted within the Caltrans right-of-way and are classified as minor alterations to existing public structures on an existing highway. The project is designed to have minimal environmental impact, as it requires no ground disturbance, no utility relocations, no connections to new infrastructure, and no equipment staging areas. Due to the nature of the work, it has qualified for a Class 1(d) categorical exemption. This state-funded project is managed by Caltrans District 8, with Malisa Lieng serving as the Senior Environmental Scientist and primary lead agency contact.
