The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) intends to award a sole source contract to OMNI Business Systems-FaxPlus, Inc. (1011 Arlington Blvd. Ste. 375 Arlington, VA 22209) for maintenance and support on 90 NRC-owned ILEX secure facsimiles. These ILEX secure facsimiles are manufactured by L-3 Communications, and OMNI Business Systems-FaxPlus, Inc. is the only authorized reseller/distributor of L-3 products and services in the United States. Should anyone other than an L-3 authorized repair facility work on these secure facsimile machines, warranties would be voided. These units have experienced exceptionally high failure rates, and if no maintenance support is available, NRC Headquarters, NRC Regions, and Resident Inspector Sites will lose the critical capability of transmitting classified information via facsimile to and from these sites.
